Recently a coworker asked my help with a map he needed to complete the slides of a presentation. He wanted three maps of a specific province of the Dominican Republic, disaggregated by municipality. When he ask for it, I immediately took it as the perfect opportunity to complete my shift from rgdals and tmap packages to sf and ggplo2 for maps visualization. The package sf provide spatial objects with the structure of a data frame where the polygons are contains in a list-column, making the use of spatial data more intuitive for the user.

En esta ocasión tengo la intención de darles un paseo breve por la primera parte de un proyecto que inicié con una compañera del trabajo. La idea es navegar por las noticias de ciertos portales como Reuters y descargar las noticias referentes a diferentes tópicos, como markets y business, al igual que descargar noticias de otros portales que contengan artículos sobre petróleo, conflictos geopolíticos, sobre la guerra comercial entre Estados Unidos y China, ect.

Una manera muy interesante de visualizar los datos es mediante mapas, vestir la cartografía con información. Los mapas constituyen una herramienta muy poderosa para comunicar, ya que llaman la atención de los lectores y suelen ser interpretados casi intuitivamente. Los software tradicionales para hacer este tipo de cosas son Qgis, ArcGIS y otros, pero si estás aprendiendo R resultaría muy útil dominar algunos paquetes que no tienen nada que envidiarles a las herramientas mencionadas.

Exploratory Data Analysis of Gas Prices in Brazil Intention I have been a kaggle member since 2017 and the analysis that this community share every day have been a good source of learning material in my data science journey. This time I decide to stop been a reader and share with you my first notebook. The main intention of the notebook is to make an Exploratory Data Analysis of the Gas Prices in Brazil data set, hoping that new r users and kagglers in general could use this as a useful material to learn and apply in their own analysis.
